UT police have decided to increase police presence during night hours to check late night brawls and theft cases. The deputy superintendent of police put on night duty would henceforth be accompanied by 30 police personnel compared with a reserve force of 12 personnel earlier on. The 30 cops used to be stationed at one place earlier.

Police said that checking would be conducted by police across the city. UT IGP RP Uapdhyaya said, “The presence of more policemen would help check late night crimes. They would check vehicles and even issues challans in case of violations.”

After joining early this year, the IGP had initiated the concept of night patrolling by a DSP-level officer who has been given mobile number 9465121000. City residents could call him up in case of any untoward incident. The calls to the number though have not registered an increase.
