In response to a sting operation aired on a television news channel on Tuesday evening, FIRs were registered against three booth-level officers (BLO)s here.

The district election officer (DEO) also recommended the afore-mentioned officers’ parent departments to take disciplinary action against them.

The three BLOs have been alleged to have taken bribes for forging votes and voter ID cards. The police have taken the accused in custody.

The erring BLOs were identified as Ashok Kumar of booth 83 in Laxman Vihar, Karan Singh of booth 86 in the same colony, and Mahesh Kumar of booth 3 in Mianwali colony. The accused have been booked under sections 32 and 134 of the

Representation of the People Act, 1950, 1951 at the Civil Lines police station.

“The erring BLOs have been suspended. We have seized the forms collected by them for making voter ID cards and are scrutinising them. If they made fake cards, then there will be a hearing before the elections where the identity of the fake voters will be established. The legitimate voters will not be deprived of their right to vote,” said DEO Shekhar Vidyarthi.

Vidyarthi has also directed the electoral registering officer of Gurgaon assembly, also the SDM Gurgaon, Om Prakash, to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the matter.
