The hearing in a 1999 poll violence case filed by a Kotkapura resident against various people, including deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, will resume in the court of the judicial magistrate, first class, here on January 2.

The information was given on the official website of the court.

The Punjab and Haryana high court had stayed the case in September 2008, but the stay was vacated by the single judge bench of justice Rajan Gupta on December 21.

Naresh Kumar Sehgal had moved the court regarding the poll violence in 1999 during the parliamentary election in Kotkapura, demanding the registration of a case. Sukhbir had contested the parliamentary election from Faridkot. On the high court’s directions, Kotkapura police in June 2006 had registered a case against many people, including Sukhbir, at the City police station.
