The general post office in the city will now have much more to offer to customers soon. A post shoppe at the GPO building will open here this week. Different items of utility will be sold by post office employees.
The people entering the building would find a special counter called post shoppe where stationery items such as pen, glue sticks and various gifts items and cards are on offer.
Jalandhar is the second city in the state after Ludhiana to begin this project. It was first launched in Bangalore.
Besides stationery items, sports items, cosmetic items, branded speed post stationery and gift items will be available at post shoppe.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, senior superintendent post Mohammad Hanif said preparations are underway.
He said, "The rates will differ from other private shops. We will provide the items at rates much lower than the market level. We are not deploying any staff; our own staff will be adjusted."
The project will generate additional revenue for the department, he said, adding that the project is in its initial stage. People will have to come here to shop; it will go online later.
