The organisers of the All India Sahibzada Ajit Singh Hockey Championship, which is underway at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) here, have decided to postpone the junior category event (Under-15), which was scheduled for December 21, 22.

Harpreet Singh, a junior category player from Malwa Hockey Academy, who has been playing hockey for the past three years said: "If fog is reason for the postponement of the event then matches of senior category and women team should also be delayed. Why are we not allowed to play? I have planned my studies accordingly and practiced a lot for the event."

He said: "Now I am serving as a ball boy and busy observing matches of seniors' team so that I can learn something new about the game."

Kulwant Singh, one of the organisers of the event, said: "Foggy weather conditions forced us to postpone the event for one-and-a half month. We might pre-pone the event considering the examinations of the junior players participating in the event."

The teams from Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Mohali and Jalandhar were to compete each other in the junior category event.

However, matches of the women category are beginning from Friday afternoon.

Jagbir Grewal, a hockey promoter in Ludhiana, who is also associated with Malwa Hockey Academy, said: "The sentiment of the player is first and foremost thing which should be valued and on top of that especially when it comes to children, who have taken time to prepare in advance, had high hopes with the tournament." "The so called 'rescheduling' of the junior category's event for one-and-a-half month does not really make any sense," he said.
