Unscheduled power cut created bizarre situation for the officials of district administration during the inauguration of a lift installed at district administration block of the mini-secretariat on Monday.
As the deputy commissioner Rajat Agarwal was about to inaugurate the lift by pushing its button, the lift did not work due to power cut. The DC immediately asked the staff to switch on the generator to make the lift functional.
The lift, built with the cost of Rs 18 lakh, has a capacity to bear load of eight people and it will carry people up and down in the triple-storey building.
The DC said people used to visit district administration block daily. Some of the people used to find it hard to step up the stairs to visit district education block, district development and panchayat office, he added.
Additional deputy commissioner (general) Baldev Singh, assistant commissioner (grievances) Bhupinder Singh and district transport officer Anil Garg were also present on the occasion.
