Inclement weather continued to hamper normal life in the tribal Lahaul & Spiti district with the region experiencing heavy snowfall that began on Tuesday night Wednesday.
The district administration advised residents to remain indoors for the next few days till the weather cleared. They were also warned against travelling outside as the region had become prone to snow avalanches.
Power and communications remain cut off in the district since the past few days due to heavy snowfall while the transportation system has been paralyzed for the past three weeks due to heavy snowfall with practically all roads blocked.
According to deputy commissioner Hans Raj Chauhan, Keylong, the district headquarters, received more than two and a half feet of snow, confining residents to their homes. "We've instructed the education department to close all educational institutions from Wednesday due to student safety concerns," he added.
Electricity supply was partially restored in the district on Tuesday evening but the inclement weather once again snapped power and it would take time to restore it.
Among the state's low altitude areas, Kullu district received moderate rain while there was fresh snowfall in the upper reaches, causing the mercury to plummet.
