Taking a note of the report published in Hindustan Times, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) has asked the Election Commission (EC) to remove Sandeep Rishi as assistant returning officer (ARO) of the Lambi assembly segment.

HT had published a report ‘Sandeep Rishi drives a U-turn as DTO to become RO in Lambi for second time’ which highlights how Rishi again was appointed district transfer officer of Muktsar just before the imposition of the code of conduct that also made him ARO of Lambi.

“Sandeep Rishi, district transport officer of Muktsar, acting as RO Lambi is a blue-eyed boy of the Badal family. During the 2012 assembly elections, Sandeep Rishi was RO of Lambi constituency from where Parkash Singh Badal was elected MLA. At that time also, Rishi was holding the post of district transport officer in Muktsar,” reads PPCC complaint to the EC.

“He was specially appointed to the said post and made returning officer. The officer acted as a political worker of the SAD-BJP alliance and made every effort to ensure the victory of Parkash Singh Badal by misusing and abusing his official position,” the compaint said.

The complaint fur the reads, “The officer is liable to be removed from the post of DTO Muktsar and ARO of Lambi and required to be transferred out of Bathinda constituency to ensure a free and fair election.”
