No matter what children do, mothers usually have soft corner for them, but for Neelam of Sundar Nagar the case is different. Her son Sandeep Kumar had allegedly killed his wife Mahi, alias Santosh Devi, on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
Neelam and her daughter Jyoti have recorded their statements before the court under Section 164 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) on Thursday. In their statement, Neelam and Jyoti said Sandeep had killed his wife Mahi with the help of his cousin Vicky and they were ashamed due to the same.
Neelam said his son was a drug addict and used to thrash Mahi. Jyoti had seconded her mother. She added that behaviour of her brother towards his wife was not good.
The board of doctors, including Dr Jasbir Kaur and Dr Ruchi Aggarwal, have found a bunch of hair from the hand of the deceased. The police have concluded that the victim had shown resistance before her death and had plucked a bunch of hair of one of the accused. The police on Thursday had taken samples of hair of both the accused and sent it for tests.
The Daresi police had arrested Vicky late on Wednesday, following the information provided by Sandeep. The police had produced the accused before the court on Thursday. The court had remanded the accused in the police custody for four days.
Accused had tied Mahi's legs before killing her
Accused Sandeep and his cousin Vicky have confessed their crime during questioning. Sandeep had told the police that Mahi had illicit relations with Vicky, who was a frequent visitor to their house.
Vicky had also confessed this before Sandeep in an inebriated condition. Following which, Sandeep had hatched the conspiracy to kill Mahi and involved Vicky in it.
Sub-inspector Sanjiv Kapoor, SHO at the Daresi police station said the accused had confessed that they attacked Mahi when she was asleep on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. They had tied her legs with tape and also gagged her with a pillow so that her cries could not go outside. Later, they strangulated her to death and fled from the scene.
It is pertinent to mention here that the police had registered a case of killing against Sandeep, Vicky, Robert and Ravi following the complaint of Shalinder Singh, father of the deceased and a resident of Meharban.
The SHO said the police had been investigating the role of Robert and Ravi and had raided various places for their arrest.
