The Punjab Government has provided financial assistance of Rs 8.14 lakh to 814 pregnant women of the district, who have delivered their babies at government hospitals of the district in the first quarter of the fiscal year under Mata Kaushalya Kalyan Yojana.

The scheme attracted a large number of women from lower middle class families in the district.

Fatehgarh Sahib Civil Surgeon Dr Neelam Bhardwaj claimed that the scheme was successful as women decided to give birth in government hospitals not only to rake in monetary benefits but also to escape from midwives and quacks.

She said, "Ever since the scheme was launched there was a surge in the number of women wanting to get their children delivered at government hospitals. The main aim of this venture was to reduce the mortality rate among women and it was precisely for this reason that the state government had floated this scheme."

Not only Mata Kaushalya scheme but also Janani Shishu Suraksha Karayakrama of the central government is running successfully in the district.

Fatehgarh Sahib Deputy Commissioner Arun Sekhri said that all funds are being provided timely to the beneficiaries under the Mata Kaushalya Scheme at all level in the district.

The DC said 123 mothers under Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakrama have been provided financial aid.
