Senior Congress leader and Patiala member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Preneet Kaur visited grain markets here and Bhadson regions and listened to the woes of farmers and commission agents.

She said that Punjab has had a bumper wheat crop this year, which was being ruined in markets owing to the snail-paced procurement and lifting. Terming it a complete mismanagement, she said preparations for procurement used to be finalised three months before the process began during the Congress regime. But, she said, this government, even after experience of nine continuous seasons of procurement, could not take care of stakeholders’ interests.

The former state minister of external affairs alleged that apart from the Rs 12,000 crore scam, there has been corruption in the purchase of packaging material. “The plastic packaging material has been purchased at higher prices and is of inferior quality which cannot withstand three days of sun and starts withering,” she said. She said due to non-payment to commission agents and farmers, labourers are also at the receiving end.

In reply to a question, Preneet Kaur said that the Congress had ample evidence against Badals, which could land them in jail. She assured to bring in policies under which inquiries would not be influenced by the ruling party people when they come to power.

Preneet Kaur also appreciated the ‘one ticket in one family’ policy announced by Captain Amrinder Singh.
