In a shameful incident, a 55-year-old priest allegedly molested a five-year-old girl at her house in Pritam Nagar area of Haibowal on Saturday.
The accused, Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Birmi village, is a priest at a Haibowal gurudwara.
In his complaint, father of the victim stated that he held a religious ceremony at his house in memory of his late father. The accused used to come to his house to perform prayers. On Friday, the accused molested his daughter, who was playing in the room where the accused used to recite 'paath', the father alleged.
The girl narrated the matter to his father on Saturday, following which the family lodged a complaint with Division Number 4 police station.
Inspector Ram Pal, station house officer (SHO) at Division Number 4 police station, said they arrested the accused immediately after lodging an FIR under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 4, 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
