The principal of a government school at Bhadson in Patiala was on Wednesday placed under suspension for fraud as he allegedly drew the salary of his teacher wife who is absent from duty for long and is currently abroad.
According to an official government spokesperson in Chandigarh, on the directions of director general school education (DGSE) Kahan Singh Pannu, deputy state project director Gurmej Singh Kainth ordered an inquiry against Gurjinder Singh Grewal, principal, Government Senior Secondary School, Bhadson, a few months ago.
The inquiry found that the principal had committed financial irregularities, so he has been suspended with immediate effect.
The government has also directed the district education officer, senior secondary, to get a case registered against the principal.
It had come to the notice of the DGSE that the principal had been drawing the salary of his wife Malwinder Kaur, who is a teacher in the same school and had been absent from duty for long.
The spokesperson said the inquiry team had found that the principal had been drawing the salary of the absent teacher on his own behalf, committing grave financial irregularities by misusing his official powers.
He said the inquiry team had also found that the principal had also withdrawn money from the GPF of his wife, who was in Canada for the past few months.
