A private bus was damaged while some cops suffered injuries after angry villagers allegedly resorted to pelting stones on a private bus in Tapali village near here on Thursday.

The villagers have been protesting against the increased fare being charged by the bus operators from Rampura Phul to Tapali village on the Rampura Phul-Bhadaur road for the past four days and have resorted to stopping traffic.

On Thursday, at about 5 pm, the villagers had blocked the Rampura Phul-Bhadaur road at Tapali when a mini private bus tried to cross the blockade. The angry residents pelted it with stones smashing window panes. Some policemen were also injured. Tension had been brewing up in the area as residents have been protesting against bus operators allegedly charging increased fare from villagers. As many as six villagers have already been booked for blocking the road on Tuesday.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Phul, Gurjeet Singh Romana, said that the situation has been controlled by the cops and negotiations were going on between the protesters and the bus operators on the issue and he is hopeful that issue would be resolved soon.
