In race of carrying more passengers, the staff of City Bus Service and a private firm, Budhel Bus Service, engaged into a scuffle on Dhandran Road. When police reached there, both the groups started levelling counter allegations on each other.
The staff of Budhel Bus Service, that run buses on Ludhiana to Dehlon route via Dhandran, claimed that the staff of Ludhiana City Bus Service attacked on them, while the staff of Ludhiana city buses claimed that the staff of former attacked them and pelted stones on city buses at Dhandran. The police are investigating the allegations of both groups.
Ludhiana City Bus manger Baljeet Singh claimed that a group of persons belonging to Budhel Bus Service carrying 'lathis' attacked five city buses that were parked at Dhandran. He alleged these persons threw stones on city buses and did not let them take away the buses on their respective routes.
He further claimed that the due to this City Bus Service on Ludhiana-Dhandran Road got affected for around one hour, adding that it was resumed later. He also claimed that the staff of city bus had not attacked them.
Kanwarinder Singh, an official with Horizon Connect Transways Private Limited, which operates and maintains the Ludhiana City Bus Service, alleged that the persons of a private bus firm tried to snatch the key of bus and parked their bus in middle of the road. He alleged that the buses of Budhel Bus Service are being run illegally in the city without valid permit. He demanded checking of their permits from the district transport officer (DTO).
On the other hand, senior official of Budhel Bus Service Gurmukh Singh said, “The city bus staff had tried to attack their conductor when the Budhel Bus reached near Jain temple on Dhandran Road. The city bus staff carrying lathis tried to hit the conductor, but he managed to save himself. Meanwhile, they hit some passengers with lathis, as per the information given to me by the bus staff. But, our staff had not attacked anyone.”
Gurmukh further claimed, “We have given a complaint against City Bus Service to district transport authorities around two months ago, and demanded checking of permits of Ludhiana City Bus Service Limited. We want rescheduling of timings of buses, as we have been plying buses on this route for the past 17 years, but the city buses have started running for a very short time. Whenever our bus reaches Dhandran to pick up passengers, the staff of city bus interferes and runs their bus ahead of our bus. We have permits for all our buses.”
Both the groups claimed to have given their complaints to the police authorities concerned.
DTO Anil Garg could not be contacted. Chowki incharge at Dhandran Balkar Singh said, “We are investigating the matter. Action will be taken against the guilty.”
