Congress' Sangrur MP Vijay Inder Singla on Monday urged the union government to order an inquiry into alleged diversion of funds from centrally-sponsored APL (Above Poverty Line) scheme by the Punjab government in order to run its own much-hyped 'Atta-Daal' scheme across the state.
It was a matter of shame for the SAD-BJP government, which had diverted hundreds of crores of rupees received from the Centre under the APL scheme to run its own scheme, Singla alleged.
"A recent report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had revealed this diversion," the Congress MP said in a press release issued here.
"It is a matter of record that the state government had got subsidised flour from the Centre, which it gave to beneficiaries under the 'Atta-Daal' scheme," he further alleged. He also maintained that the state's 'Atta-Daal' scheme was managed poorly and the SAD-BJP regime had itself admitted a few days back that a large number of beneficiaries remained outside its ambit.
Accusing the SAD-BJP government of adopting "double standards", the Congress leader said that on the one hand the state was hogging limelight by touting centrally-sponsored schemes as its own, on the other hand it was not announcing the implementation of the Food Security Ordinance, which would bring all needy persons under the welfare scheme.
"The SAD-BJP regime has been misguiding the Dalits and the backward classes by claiming credit for the 'Atta-Daal' scheme and misleading the people with its futile claims by re-distributing central grants," Singla remarked.
The MP also appealed to Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa to lead a state-wide campaign to demand immediate implementation of the Food Security Ordinance.
"Awareness programmes will be held on schemes of the UPA government, including scholarship schemes for students, as well as grants received for primary and secondary healthcare so that false claims of the SAD-BJP government are exposed," said Singla.
Meanwhile, he said he would launch an extensive campaign in his own constituency in this regard.
