The local police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a person identified as Manpreet Singh, a proclaimed offender, who had jumped bail in an attempt to murder case 22 years ago.
The team of Sangrur police arrested him immediately after he landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Saturday evening.
Senior superintendent of police Harcharan Singh Bhullar said Manpreet, a resident of Bhiwanigarh, was also involved in terrorist activities and left the country after jumping bail in the late 80s.
The case under Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act was also registered against Manpreet in 1987.
He has been sent in two-day police remand. The SSP said Manpreet had thrashed a deputy superintendent of jail in 1989 and was later released on bail. “How Manpreet procured a passport and left the country will be investigated,” he said.
