Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday did a U-turn on his Tuesday’s statement about securing a ministerial berth for INLD’s Dushyant Chautala at the Centre while campaigning for him in Hisar.
When confronted on this, Badal said, “Who am I to make ministers at the Centre? It’s the discretion of the Prime Minister. Main ta hawa banaun lai keha si (I projected Dushyant as a minister to give a boost to his campaign).”
Addressing a gathering here, Badal said his campaign for the INLD was in the knowledge of the senior BJP leadership. “What I am doing is in the knowledge of the BJP and I am doing this only to make Narendra Modi the prime minister,” Badal said, adding that he tried his best for a pre-poll alliance but it didn’t work out.
On a post-poll alliance of the BJP with the INLD, Badal said, “I will not comment, but we will do our best to make Modi the Prime Minister.”
He also differed with the BJP which promises interlinking of rivers.
“Punjab has no excess water. What the BJP is promising (interlinking of rivers) is of other rivers, not those of Punjab. Our rivers are meant for Punjab only and already we have several dams and the water is channelised,” said Badal.
The river waters is an old issue and the SAD has always opposed the sharing of water with other states.
On Capt Amarinder Singh’s candidature from Amritsar and his challenge for a debate, Badal said, “I don’t want to comment. He lost the state election in 2012 and was thrown out of the post of PPCC president. Now, he is only an MLA. Thus, what to say about a man who has been dumped by his party.”
