'Promote moral values among youth to end drug abuse'

Punjab Writers and Cultural Forum on Sunday organised a seminar on the topic 'social values in present-day society. Speaking on the occasion, Ved Parkash Gupta, founder chairman of the forum, said there was an urgent need to wean the youth away from drug abuse.

Punjab Writers and Cultural Forum on Sunday organised a seminar on the topic 'social values in present-day society. Speaking on the occasion, Ved Parkash Gupta, founder chairman of the forum, said there was an urgent need to wean the youth away from drug abuse. "We have to promote moral values in day-to-day life, with stress on charity. That can also help to uplift the downtrodden sections of society," he said.

He further said that the youth had been drifting away from the old values of the Indian society. "Such a trend is a serious threat to social development."

SK Ahluwalia, retired commissioner of Patiala division, said social and voluntary organisations should start organising debates at public forums to mobilise public opinion in favour of social values.

REKHA MOHAN, CHAMAN HONOURED
On the occasion, veteran sportsperson Chaman Lal and Rekha Mohan, a well-known writer of Patiala, were honoured by the forum.

Rekha Mohan, who is a postgraduate in Hindi, Punjabi and a diploma-holder in Urdu, has been a prolific writer having contributed to a number of publications of the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Gupta, a veteran Congress leader and former chairman of the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC), complimented Rekha Mohan.
