Property tax: City divided into 3 parts
For the collection of property taxes for 2014-15, various colonies of the city have been divided into three categories - A, B and C. The municipal corporation (MC) is expecting to collect Rs 80 crore as property tax for this period.

A meeting regarding collection of property tax was conducted between the local government and MC officials at Chandigarh on Thursday. There are more than 950 areas in the city, of which 50% will be covered under category A.
Mayor Harchran Singh Gohalwaria said the areas that fell under category A were posh, while the unplanned areas would come under category B and the outer wards would comprise category C. He said the government had also reduced the rates of property tax.
MC commissioner GK Singh said the charges would be collected as per facilities being provided, adding that residents could avail benefit of rebate by February 28.
He appealed to all residents to submit their property tax as the earliest.
