Protesters burnt the effigy of the state revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Sunday for hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community by distorting a "shabad" from Gurbani. They said such actions denigrate the Sikh gurus which would not be tolerated at any cost.

The protesters, who had assembled before the historic gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, said that Majithia had hurt the religious feelings of the Sikhs by distorting the shabad (hymn) of Guru Gobind Singh "Nischay kar Arun Jaitley ki jeet karu" while addressing a rally in favour of BJP candidate.

Protesters Uday Singh and Kuldeep Singh said the Akal Takht should declare him "Tankhaiyya (ex-communicate him)" so that nobody dared to repeat such statement in future.

They also demanded that Majithia should be removed from the presidentship of the Youth Akali Dal.

They further said that they were not connected with any political party and added that political parties should seek votes while observing the "maryada" so that the religious feelings of any community was not hurt during the electioneering.
