As a part of the nationwide 'Rail Rocko' protest, BJP Kisan Morcha members halted Swaran Shatabdi (12029) near Sahnewal rail track on Friday.

Nearly 200 members of the BJP Kisan Morcha gathered near Sahnewal track at 11am. Heavy Railway Protection Force (RPF) was deployed on the spot.

Delhi-Amritsar Swaran Shatabdi reached Sahnewal at 11:18am, and the BJP Kisan Morcha members sat on track, thus stopping the train to mark their protest. Farmers raised slogans against the Congress-led UPA government for not fulfilling their demands.

Though due to heavy RPF security the farmers let the train go after halting it for four minutes and by 11:22 am train moved toward its destination.

Morcha (Punjab) vice-president Major Pal Singh said government was not paying heed toward the demands of the farmers. Nearly 1.45 lakh farmers were forced to commit suicides during the UPA rule, he added. He said policies of the government created draught conditions for the farmers.

Morcha national secretary Sukhminder Pal Singh Grewal said the benefit of UPA government's loan waiver scheme went to banks and not to the farmers. Grewal said, "BJP Kisan Morcha will raise the issue of implementation of Swaminathan Commission regarding remunerative prices with 50% profit for the farmers. Our other issues are recommendations made by the chief minister's committee about the compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre for risk management must also be implemented and the increased prices of mixed fertilisers should also be taken back."

No case was registered against the protesting farmers till the news was filed.
