Tension prevailed as members of Sikh organisations protested the putting up of posters of the movie 'Messenger of God' at the 22 Acre Market on Tuesday. Shopkeepers downed shutters to avoid untoward incidents.
Cops from various stations across the district rushed to pacify the agitators. One of them was taken into custody and released later.
Superintendent of police (detective) Swarn Singh Khanna said, "We have told the protesters that we can enforce neither installing nor removing of posters of any movie once it is approved by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)."
He said the situation was under control and that the protesters had left.
The movie features Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
