The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has awarded additional marks to as many as 62 Class-10 students from Jalandhar district who have won medals in sports at different levels.
The board has given additional grace marks to Class 10 and 12 students who have secured medals in sports at the state, national and the international level.
Earlier, the board had given additional marks to 45 Class-12 students with sports background from the district. The medal winners (51 students) in the Punjab School Games had got 15 additional grace marks while the national and international medal winners (11 students) got 25 marks.
A total of 717 students of Class 10 from Punjab, who excelled in sports by getting first three positions, got additional marks. Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal, chairman, PSEB said, "The students achieving first three positions in sports competitions will get 15 marks for their achievements in the state-level school games and 25 marks for those at national and international level. Students participating in games have to devote ample time to practice and thus miss out on studies."
Of the 62 students from the district, 20 are from Government Senior Secondary State Sports School. Earlier, out of 45 sportspersons from the district, 14 students were from the school.
While nine students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Ladowali Road, are in the list, seven are from Government High School, Maqsudan, six from Doaba Arya Senior Secondary School, Nurmahal, four from Government Senior Secondary School, Puranpur.
