Simrandeep Kaur of Baba Gurmukh Singh Uttam Singh Senior Secondary School, Khadoor Sahib (Tarn Taran), is first with 99.08% marks in the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class-10 examinations, the results of which were declared on Tuesday here.

In both podium finish and pass percentage, girls have maintained the lead over boys. Simranpreet Kaur of Prabhakar Senior Secondary School Bhalla Colony, Chheharta (Amritsar), has secured the second spot with 98.92%, while Arsh Malhotra of Shivalik Model School Jagraon (Ludhiana), lone boy in top three, is third with 98.77%. Board chairperson Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal said the pass percentage of 72.25 was an improvement from last year’s 65.77. “Only 25,662 (7.5%) students have failed,” she said.

Like in the Class-12 results, Ludhiana rules the Class-10 merit list, where SAS Nagar and Pathankot have scored a zero. The least score on the merit list of 355 is 625 out of 650. The cut-off stopped at 96.18%. The border district of Tarn Taran has outscored other districts with a pass percentage of 93.24. Gurdaspur (92.05), Amritsar (89.41), Pathankot (82.68), Ferozepur (74.51) and Hoshiarpur (73.05) are next.

Punjabi rules

The maximum pass percentage among subjects was in Punjabi (94.98), Hindi (92), mathematics (89.45), social studies (87), and science (85.32). The candidates struggled in English, and so the pass percentage for that subject is least at 83.45.
