True to its position as the district with the highest literacy rate in Punjab, Hoshiarpur has sent the 2nd highest number of students to the state's merit list with 38 in results of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) declared on Monday. The state's merit list has 366 students.
Nawanshahr has been an underperformer with only five students making it to the merit list and with a pass percentage of 66.58%. Kapurthala did a little better with its pass percentage at 76.05%.
Hoshiarpur topped the charts with a pass percentage of 77.85%. Of 22,629 students, 17,616 were declared passed. Girls outshone boys in the merit list bagging 26 positions.
Jalandhar also has a relatively good rank among districts at 4th with 17 students making it to the merit list. Of these, 11 are girls. The district's pass percentage is also good with 17,782 passing from a total strength of 24,584. From Kapurthala, eight students made it to the merit list.
Analysis shows that JC DAV Collegiate Senior Secondary School, Dasuya, Hoshiarpur, is 5th in the state for sending seven students to the merit list.
New St Soldier Senior Secondary Public School, Jalandhar, is 6th in the state with six students on the list.
Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Talwara Hoshairpur, AS Senior Secondary School Mukerian, Hoshairpur and GTB Khalsa Senior Secondary Public School, Hoshiarpur, on the 7th position with five students on the merit list
