Engineers of the Patiala region observed a "black day" on Monday by wearing black badges in protest against the violation of the tripartite agreement for granting extension in upper age limit of K.D. Chaudhri, chairman-cum-managing director (CMD), Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL), from 62 years to 65 years.

The engineers are opposing under the banner of the PSEB Engineers' Association.

"The engineers view this extension as a breach of faith by the government. The qualification and age criteria for the CMDs and directors has been adopted from the successful organisations like the army and central public sector undertakings and no change in these criteria is being done in these organisations. However, the government of Punjab has violated these criteria to benefit the incumbent CMD which shall be against the interest of the organisational development of the PSPCL", read a press release issued by the PSEBEA.

Engineers said that they would hold a regional-level meeting on February 12 and a candle light march on 19 at Patiala.
