The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) co-ordination committee held a massive protest rally from PSPCL complex on Ferozepur Road to deputy commissioner's office at the mini-secretariat on Monday.
Hundreds of the employees, engineers and other officials participated in the rally holding black flags, and raised slogans against the Punjab government and power corporation management.
The protest march was against the government and power corporation's decision to sell PSPCL's prime 32-acre land for the down town project and to shift existing offices to different places. Heavy police force was deployed with the rally.
Employees staged dharna outside DC office for half an hour. A delegation of employees met general assistant to DC Narveer Singh Brar, who assured the delegation members to fix a meeting with deputy commissioner Rajat Agarwal on October 7 or 10.
Co-ordination committee member Bhupinder Khosla said, “We will wait for the meeting with the DC over the issue. Till then, we have asked the employees as well as residents living in the power colony not to shift or vacate the office from its present location.”
Harbhajan Singh, Parkash Mann, Rajinder Virk, Balwinder Bajwa, Sukhbir Singh and others were also present on the occasion.
Public work suffers
Public was harassed due to the rally by the employees. Many people, who had come to the PSPCL office, had to return because no officer or employee was on duty till afternoon. Complaints filed by the people also went unheard because of the protest rally of the PSPCL employees.
