Various city colleges are in a fix thanks to the to implementation of semester system in Panjab University's undergraduate classes from the current academic session. While the date sheet for first year classes will be released by the university, the colleges themselves will decide the date sheet for second and final year students and conduct the house tests in December.

Hence, various colleges cannot decide the schedule for the date sheet till the time the university releases first year's date sheet for house tests.

Prinicpal of Government College for Girls, Ludhiana, Gurminder Kaur, said, "This is the first time the university has implemented semester system in undergraduate courses and first year students will give the exams according to the date sheet set by the university. We have to inform the student's atleast 15 days before the commencement of exams and we won't be able to do so if we don't receive the date sheet for first year course from the university well in time."

On the other hand, RS Jhanji, principal of AS College, Khanna, said, "To be on the safer side, I have already decided to start the house tests for second and final year students from December 1. As my college will be centre for private candidates and if the date sheet of semester and house test will clash than we will face shortage of classrooms. Further, we have to conduct classes for second and final year students and hence we require classrooms for that too. I have also written to the university authorities to restrict the number of private candidates to our college otherwise it will become rather tough to make seating arrangements for students. I think the university will start the semester exams for first year post December 13."
