Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday called for starting development funds in each district to be run by donations given by locals.

At a public felicitation programme held at Kalidas Rangshala here on Saturday evening, Khattar said the money collected through community participation would be utilised for development projects.

On the occasion, Khattar volunteered to donate money for the Karnal development fund and said it would help in shaping Karnal as a 'smart city'.

However, he clarified that the state government was committed to inclusive development and public fund was an initiative for active community participation.

Khattar also announced to grant Rs 1 lakh to Chanchal and Damini from Jind, who took nine rounds instead of customary seven of sacred fire during their marriage recently. Lauding their initiative of dedicating two additional rounds to vow against female foeticide and environment awareness, Khattar said it was a path-breaking initiative towards creating awareness on important social issues.

Earlier, Khattar urged people to write their mobile phones numbers on their complaints so that the authorities could revert with SMS alerts on the status of respective complaints.
