Punjab minister for higher education Surjeet Singh Rakhra on Tuesday inaugurated the traditional Khalsai games organised by Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College.
Addressing participants,Rakhra said sportspersons from SGPC-run colleges, while maintaining their culture and traditions, have made the country proud by winning medals at international competitions.
He further said through such games sportspersons could display their talent besides keeping them away from social evils like drug and alcohol abuse. He also released a souvenir with regard to the Khalsai games.
Earlier, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar declared the games open and said about 3,500 boys and girls from 34 SGPC-run colleges were taking part in the games.
