With an aim to educate farmers about latest agricultural and household management practices, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will hold a series of seven Kisan Melas and Kisan Divas in various districts of Punjab this March.
Giving details, director of extension education, RS Sidhu, said that the series would commence with the first Kisan Mela at Ballowal Saunkhri on March 10 followed by Kisan Divas at Nagkalan Jahangir, Amritsar and Faridkot on March 12.
He informed that the Kisan Mela at Rauni, Patiala will be organised on March 16 whereas the two-day Kisan Mela on PAU campus will be hosted on March 20 and 21. Further, Sidhu said that the melas at Gurdaspur and Bathinda districts would be held on March 25 and 27, respectively.
Sidhu said that these events would provide a platform to the farming community to familiarise themselves with the farm innovations and latest agricultural technologies for forthcoming kharif season.
Different departments of PAU will put up exhibitions and technical stalls where farmers can discuss their issues with the university's subject-matter specialists, he added. The farmers can also purchase farm literature, new seeds and planting material during the functions, he added.
