A Punjab Agro Food Grain Corporation district manager was caught red-handed by the vigilance bureau (VB) while accepting a bribe of`Rs 50,000 here on Saturday. The accused, Vipin Singla, is currently posted at Patiala.
VB sub-inspector Harminder Singh said Baljit Singh, a class I inspector in the same department, had complained that Singla had been demanding money from him to pursue his extension case with the government.
"The complainant claimed that the accused used to demand Rs 10,000 per truck from inspectors for transportation of grains. Singla also took money for not conducting physical verification of the paddy stock in different godowns across the district," said the VB officer.
Following the complaint, VB sleuths laid a trap and asked the complainant to set a deal with district manager for clearing his extension file for Rs 1 lakh.
"Vipin was arrested red-handed while accepting the first instalment of the amount. The VB also recovered the money from him," said Harminder Singh said, adding that the accused has been sent to police custody.A case was registered against Singla under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
