Punjab fencers grab two gold medals on Day 1

Hosts Punjab fencers won two gold and two silver medals in first day of the fifth National Fencing Federation Cup at Raja Bhalendra Singh Sports Complex, Punjabi University in Patiala on Monday. The tournament is being dedicated to late Arun Vij.

Hosts Punjab fencers won two gold and two silver medals in first day of the fifth National Fencing Federation Cup at Raja Bhalendra Singh Sports Complex, Punjabi University in Patiala on Monday. The tournament is being dedicated to late Arun Vij.


In women foil individual event, Jasmine of Punjab won gold, whereas Radhika P Awati of Kerala clinched silver. Baljeet Kaur of Chandigarh won a bronze medal.

International fencer Komalpreet Kaur Shukla of Punjab won gold in sabre Individual event, whereas Neelam Rani won silver medal. In the men’s epee individual, Dharmender Singh of SSCB won gold. Satish Garnaik of Punjab won silver, while Pratap Singh of Uttarakhand and CJ Guruprakash of Tamil Nadu won bronze medals each.

MLA and Punjab fencing association president Brahm Mohindra, general secretary Anil Arora and Punjabi University vice-chancellor Jaspal Singh were present at the opening ceremony. As many as 21 teams in men’s and women’s categories are competing in this tournament.
