Punjab government gives nod to recruit 4445 teachers

The unemployed teachers in Punjab have a reason to cheer as the state cabinet has given its nod to the government aided schools in the state to appoint 4445 teachers in three phases.

Education Minister, Dr Daljeet Singh Cheema, stated this while presiding over the state level primary schools sports championship being held at Mata Gujri College here today. More than 2700 students of primary schools from 22 districts in the state were participating in the three day state level sports championship.

On the sidelines of event, talking to HT, Cheema said that aided schools would be given directions soon to make appointments to fill vacancies of teachers. The recruitment would be done in three phases and in first phase teachers of prime subjects including mathematics, science and English would be appointed. To promote sports among the government has decided to introduce a compulsory sports period in all the elementary schools from the new academic session.

Despite this, to cover up the syllabus missed by sports students the government has also decided to give additional 15 and 25 marks to players who have bagged first, second and third place in sports events at state and national levels, respectively.

He further informed that the education department was keeping a close eye on the performance of teachers in all the government school and added that action would be taken against those whose performance was not found up to the mark.

He said, the pending salary of aided school teachers has already been made and a different budget of Rs 310 crore has been passed for the salaries of teacher that comes under ICT (Information Communication Technology) project.
