Punjab Home Guards to man security towers in jails

Following a spurt in cases of drugs and mobile phones being seized from inside jails, the government has decided to hand over the task of manning security towers in jails to the Punjab Home Guards.


Patiala Jail commandant Rai Singh Dhaliwal has issued directions that the Guards would man 103 towers in 19 jails across the state. The commandant added that 50 guards would be stationed in Patiala Jail and 30 would be installed in Nabha.

He added that there were 1,170 home guards on duty in the state and 80 would take over the task of manning security towers. He claimed that the jawans of the Punjab Home guards were ready to tackle any emergency.
