The Punjab government would soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the British Pig Association (BPA) to develop and promote piggery in the state along latest scientific lines.

This decision was taken by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal during a meeting with BPA export manager Chris Jackson here on Wednesday, a spokesman said.

The BPA would provide pigs and frozen semen to farmers and livestock breeders of Punjab as per the MoU to be signed with the state’s animal husbandry department.

The chief minister hoped that this tie-up would turn around the stagnant economy of farmers and livestock breeders as part of the state’s diversification programme.

Jackson also visited the modern pig breeding farm at Nabha, the spokesman added.
