Punjab man kills wife for objecting to drinking

A fifty-year-old man allegedly killed his wife for regularly objecting to his drinking habit. Police sources revealed that the accused, Jeet Singh, a resident of Katehra Mohalla near Jalandhar, killed his wife Jagdish Kaur (45) by hitting hard on her head using a heavy wooden piece.

"The couple always argued over this issue. Today morning, they entered into a heated argument and reportedly in drunken condition, Jeet Singh, working as a daily wager, attacked his wife several times using a wooden piece. Jeet Singh, later fled the spot leaving her in pool of blood," assistant commissioner of Police (West) Ravinderpal Singh Sadhu said.

Ratno Devi, mother-in-law of the deceased, who was staying with the family and was at her elder's daughter home at the time of incident, when returned home raised an alarm and called neighbours for help. However, the victim succumbed to injuries while she was being taken to the hospital, Sandhu added.

The deceased is survived by a daughter and two sons and all were reportedly away from the house at the time of the incident. "The daughter, who is the eldest, was at her workplace while both the sons were at their college when the incident happened," Sandhu added.

Police had registered a case under section 302 of Indian Penal Code.
