The Punjab government on Thursday announced to close down primary schools for two days beginning January 4 owing to intense cold weather conditions prevailing in the region.
Sikander Singh Maluka, education minister, speaking to Hindustan Times over phone, said that keeping in view impact of severe cold wave prevailing in the region, the state government has decided to close down primary schools for two days from January 4 to 5.
"The teachers will also not require attending the schools on these two days. The schools will remain closed on January 6 for being Sunday. We will again review the cold conditions on Sunday to decide whether to extend holidays in primary schools from Monday onwards or not," he said.
Maluka revealed that the opening timings of the secondary classes (Class 6 onwards) were also delayed by one hour. "These schools will now open at 10 am till further orders," he said.
