Punjab Roadways employee caught taking bribe

The vigilance bureau arrested account officer of Punjab Roadways, Jagraon, and nazar while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a retired sub-inspector of the department on Monday.

According to information, complainant Jagjit Singh of Rajowana village, who was retired from the department as sub-inspector in September 30 last year, was not getting retirement benefits and had contacted account officer Hemraj Goyal, who has asked Jagjit to further contact nazar Ashwani Kumar. The accused had demanded Rs 25,000 to clear the file and to start provisional pension. Later, the final deal was struck at Rs 15,000.

A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against Hemraj and Ashwin in the context.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP), vigilance bureau, Ludhiana, said Jagjit was not getting retirement benefits and had requested account officer Hemraj Goyal to clear his file.

After receiving complaint from Jagjit, the vigilance laid a trap and arrested the accused red-handed in the presence of Harjit Singh, deputy manager of Punsup, and Sanjiv Kumar Taneja, a government teacher, on Monday.
