The joint action committee of Punjab Roadways employees carried out a rally at Ludhiana depot against the state transport department for "not fulfilling their long-pending demands"on Saturday.

The members in large numbers gathered at the depot workshop and raised slogans against the state government as well as the transport department for "neglecting their demands"for more than a year.

All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Ludhiana depot, president Pardeep Singh, while addressing the gathering, said, "All the contractual employees should be regularised in a timely manner and the family members of the employees, who died performing services, should be given permanent jobs in the department."

The issue of promotion was also raised during the protest which the association claims to be lying pending for years.
AITUC secretary Harbansh Singh said, "Corruption has engulfed the transport department completely but it is not too late. We should get together and voice our demands strongly before the government."

"The demand of merging of loan-free Punbus buses into Roadways is still pending with the transport department,"he said.

Vice president Manjit Singh and others including Amrik Singh, Gurmail Singh from workshop union, Rajinder Singh, Kuldip Singh from the employees' union, Swaranjit Singh from drivers' union were also present in the protest.
