The Punjab Roadways employees are irked with the Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation for its repeated failure to pay annual increment to its employees during the past three years.

A Punjab Roadways official on condition of anonymity said: “Nearly 25 employees of roadways have not received 3% increment on their basic salaries.” The matter of pending increment had been brought to the notice of the general manager, Punjab Roadways, Ludhiana depot, several times but to no avail.

The official said: “When we had approached the general manager of Punjab Roadways on Wednesday and discussed with him the issue of due increment, which they had not been given for the past three years, his response to pay the increment was indifferent and almost the same.”

He said: “Every time the transport department says that they have taken up the issue with the higher transport authorities and as soon as the required formalities are met, they will release the increment.”

The official said even the employees who had been serving the roadways for more than nine years had not been regularised.

President of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Pradeep Singh said: “If the issue of pending increment is not resolved at the earliest, we will resort to strict measures in future. We have planned our next meeting on July 9.”

Despite several efforts, Rashpal Singh, general manager, Punjab Roadways, Ludhiana depot, was not available for the comment.
