The Punjab Roadways, Ludhiana centre, has decided to conduct a health check-up drive and a seminar on road safety measures for its employees in the month-end.
As per the state transport norms, roadways in collaboration with the chief medical officer and district administration hold such sessions every year.
Rashpal Singh, general manager, Punjab Roadways, said: "During the medical drive, every employee of the roadways will be thoroughly checked and if anyone would be found ailing, he would be duly treated."
"We are approaching the authorities for their approval. Once we get the approval, we will be able to announce the final date. Safety on roads and medical fitness are two very important aspects for a transport employee."
Gurmeet Chaudhary, one of the passengers, said: "As a passenger our safety depends upon the awareness level of the transport employees. And given the fact that road accidents are ever-growing with the passage of time, if the transport employees will be treated for ailments and an awareness drive to apprise them on road safety norms then it is indeed a welcome move by the transport department. Such drives should be conducted on a regular basis."
