For the students of Classes 8 and 10 who could not clear the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) and National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) examination, there is another opportunity as the State Institute of Science Education is conducting the Punjab State Talent Search Examination on January 19.

Those clearing the exam will get Rs 200 as stipend per month till Class 12.

Government schools in the district are busy sending information to the two respective government schools and submitting the details of the students who want to appear in the examination.

For Class 8, schools will submit the forms at Government Senior Secondary School, Multipurpose, and for Class 10 Government Senior Secondary School (Girls), Bharat Nagar.

The last date of sending the details to the education department is December 16.

The students of Classes 8 and 10 are eligible to take the exam with 55% marks in Classes 7 and 9 for the general category. For reserved categories, the students must have scored 50% marks; 25% seats are reserved for the scheduled castes, 5% for the backward classes and 3% for the physically challenged.

Duration of the examination will be three hours. There will be one question paper consisting of two parts: mental ability test of 50 marks and Scholastic Aptitude Test of 130 marks. Students have to pay no fee to appear in the exam.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Varinder Kaur, district science supervisor, Ludhiana, said, "We have asked the government middle, high and senior schools to send us the details of the students so that we can send maximum number of students' names to the head office. There are many students in government schools who are brilliant but need financial help."
