Punjab Vidhan Sabha secretary Shashi Mishra Lakhanpal, her husband SM Mishra and son Janesh Mishra have been booked for dowry harassment.
The case was registered on the complaint of Brij Mohan Vinayak, deputy advocate general of Punjab, whose daughter was married to Janesh in December 2010.
The police registered a case under Sections 406, 420, 498-A and 506 against the three accused at the women police station, Sector 17, Chandigarh on May 18.
Vinayak in his complaint told the police that his daughter, a software engineer, had married Janesh in December 2010. “Initially, they wanted a simple ceremony but later they started asking for gifts for various relatives. I had to even sell a building in commercial area in Amritsar to fulfil their demands,” alleged Vinayak, while talking to HT over phone.
“In 2014, my daughter had gone to the US on spouse visa but there too Janesh ill-treated her and she had lodged a domestic violence case against him in February 2015. He had even thrown her out of the house and I brought her back,” Vinayak added.
The complaint was filed in February this year after Vinayak found that Janesh is going for second marriage.
ALLEGATIONS ARE BASELESS: ACCUSED
Shashi Mishra termed the allegations as totally baseless and fabricated. “We have done nothing wrong. It is a matrimonial dispute between my son and his former wife. The two had legally got divorced in 2015. Everything happened between the two in the US, then how are me and my husband involved? We are being unnecessarily dragged into the case.”
She said, “I have sought for the re-investigation of the case which is based on false evidence. The case is being re-investigated and truth shall soon come out.”
