The decision is aimed at encouraging people to go in for legal registration of property rather than adopting other measures which only increase intra-family disputes, the spokesperson added.

The Punjab government on Thursday waived the registration fee charged for the transfer of property between spouses and blood relations in urban and rural areas with immediate effect, according to an official spokesperson.

Claiming that this move was a special gesture to encourage families to legally transfer property between blood relations and spouses, including son, daughter, father, mother, brother, sister, grandson and granddaughter, the government said it had also decided to waive the social security fund, social infrastructure cess and stamp duty on such transfers. A notification to this effect was issued on Thursday.
