The Punjab government will make strenuous efforts to get the status of a deemed university for Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) State Technical Campus here. This was stated by Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal while speaking at the 4th convocation of the campus on Sunday.
The state government would soon take up the matter with the Union government, Badal said.
Emphasising the need for giving result-oriented education to the youth, the chief minister said that the state government had been making all-out efforts to impart training in various skills to the youth of the state to make them self-employable.
Badal said that efforts were also afoot to enable the youth of the state to compete with their counterparts across the globe.
Thanking the NDA government at the Centre for allotting key projects such as the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) for the state, he said these institutes along with the Indian School of Business (ISB), IIIT Ropar and others would give fillip to the education sector in the state.
Badal also exhorted the elected representatives of villages and cities present on the occasion to inspire the students of villages and cities to avail skill education for getting gainful employment.
Meanwhile, welcoming the chief minister on the occasion, state BJP chief Kamal Sharma hailed the path-breaking initiatives taken by the state government for imparting quality education to the youth of the state.
Cabinet minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon, advisor to the chief minister Harcharan Singh Bains, local member of Parliament Sher Singh Ghubaya, legislators Hari Singh Zira and Joginder Singh Jindu, deputy commissioner DPS Kharbanda and director of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh State Technical Campus TS Sidhu were also present on the occasion.
