Punjab wins national karate championship

The Punjab team lifted the overall championship trophy in the open national karate championship (Shotokan Cup-2014) organised by the Punjab Shotokan Karate Organisation in collaboration with the District Child Welfare Council, Gurdaspur at the New Gymnasium Hall in Gurdaspur on Sunday.

The teams of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh were adjudged the first and second runners-up respectively.
The Council's honorary secretary Romesh Mahajan said that 350 players in different categories ranging between 8 to 25 years from Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi and Rajasthan participated in this championship.

The vent was inaugurated by deputy commissioner Abhinav Trikha. Additional deputy commissioner A Karthik, Gurdaspur Border Security Force deputy inspector general Brig NK Mishra, Council's chairperson Bhavna Sobhit Trikha, Punjab BJP executive member B.K.Mittal, programme's nodal officers Paramjit Singh Kalsi and Sensai Shiraz Ahmed and others were present.
