Taking the legacy of her father ahead, Amanjot Kaur Ramoowalia helped a family of nearby Dhaliwal Bet village in getting the body of their son back from Australia. Tirath Singh, who went to Australia six years ago and had got the citizenship six months back, died of a heart attack a few days back.

Amanjot is the daughter of Lok Bhalai Party president Balwant Singh Ramuwalia, who has been helping Punjab families with kids working abroad and has been spearheading the campaign of NRI wives.

The family of Tirath Singh was facing difficulty in bringing the body back to his native town. "He was going to be married in January and had a respectable job in Australia," wailed his mother Jeet Kaur, adding: "Tirath was the only brother of three sisters."

The body was later cremated in the presence of villagers and prominent persons of the area.

"The family approached us with their problem and we helped them with the protocol," Amanjot, who is the general secretary of Shiromani Akali Dal (women wing), said. "We are also dealing with 25 cases of women who have been deserted by their NRI husbands and I and my father are working tirelessly to provide them every possible help," she added.

"Few days back, bodies of four youths were brought back from Belgium due to our efforts," she revealed.
