In an unprovoked attack, a Punjabi-origin security guard from Surrey (Canada), Hoshiar Singh Bajwa, 65, was thrashed by three men on Sunday.

He is in a state of shock at Royal Columbian Hospital, with more than 100 stitches on the head. The police are probing whether there was any racial motive behind the attack as no theft or vandalism was reported after the incident.

"He was just doing his job. Now, he is in trauma," said Bajwa's son Baljeet, talking to The Province newspaper.

Bajwa recalls that he was on duty at a construction site in Port Coquitlam when he saw a man jump the fence. The latter sought help, saying that he was being chased. Then, two other men grabbed him and started thrashing him. Bajwa was also hit by a metal rod lying at the site. He was left for dead in a pool of blood.

Somehow, Bajwa managed to call 911(police helpline number). His family found him beyond recognition and unable to speak. It took more than 100 stitches to close the wounds on his head. Doctors fear that he could lose vision in one eye.

"You can't imagine how they hit him. It was very cruel," Arvinder Panesar, owner of Canuck Security, the company that employed Bajwa, was quoted as saying by some media reports.

The Coquitlam Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is probing the attack. No arrest has been made so far. The three suspects have been described as Caucasian and in their mid-20s.
